Weekly Quiz Number 6

Every week from now on, you will be shown three pictures and asked some relevant questions. Almost all the pictures are also somewhere on the cottage web-site, with descriptions, so peruse the site and win a prize! Because every six months prizes will be awarded for the best answers - you get a large discount on your next booking of Highbridge Cottage! Here are the details:

  Either Or
First Prize 50% off a Week A free Short Break
Second Prize 25% off a Week 50% off a Short Break
Third Prize 10% off a Week 25% off a Short Break

Plus, if you do not win a prize but get more than 25% of the answers right, a bottle of wine will be yours when you next stay at the cottage.

For those who have not yet looked at the cottage web-site, a "Week" is 7 nights, Saturday to Friday, and a "Short Break" is 3 nights, Saturday to Monday.

Prize rules:

  1. The prizes will be awarded on the 24th of each June and December (to give you an extra Christmas present), and need to be taken up within the following twelve months.
  2. The prizes are not retrospective, in that they do not apply to holidays already booked but not taken.
  3. Prizes will not be awarded unless at least 5 valid entries, each comprising at least 3 of the quizzes, have been received.
  4. Only one entry per email address per quiz is permitted. If you answer the same quiz more than once, only the latest submission will be considered for the prize draw.
  5. To give everyone a better chance, winners of the first prize are excluded from the next draw.
  6. The web-site owner is the judge, and his decision is final.

Each Quiz will/should/might be replaced by its successor late on Sunday evening (G.M.T).

If you've got this far, we hope that you have an email address - you will need one in order to submit your answers.

NB This weekly quiz is intended to replace the current "Walks Quiz", which sadly generated very few replies (I shall be contacting the respondents individually). Please contact me here if you have any comments on this Weekly Quiz - especially if you have any problems with the pictures or with submitting the answers. Thanks!

This is Weekly Quiz no. 6. Like Quiz no. 5, all the pictures were taken in March 2003 - and show you what you can expect if you come to the Lakes in winter! In fact, when these pictures were taken, there was quite a heat haze, as you can see!

Just choose the answers from the lists provided, and complete the contact details at the end. Good luck!

NB Especially for those of you who, like me, have a scrolling wheel on your mouse - remember, when you have selected an answer, click somewhere outside the box in order to "lock" your answer. If you don't know what I'm talking about, that's fine 'cos you don't have a problem!

1. a. Which river is this?

Clue: less than 4 miles from Braithwaite - and there's only one river that wide in the vicinity.

2. a. This ancient bridge connects which village (out of shot on the right) to the main valley road?

Clue: We're less than a mile from picture no.1 above, and it's the same river.

b. So which valley are we in?

3. a. Name the pointed fell in the middle and left of the picture (they are usually given the same name)

Clue: looking south, in the Newlands valley, from Little Town.

b. Name the fell on the right.

NB This picture was taken at about 4pm on a very warm March afternoon, and is "as taken", without any editing at all. What a sight to finish off a walk!

Please provide as much as you like of the following contact information, but your email address as a minimum, so that we can tell you how you fared:

NB Don't forget to hit the "Submit answers" button after completing your contact details, otherwise all your efforts will be in vain!
