How
to get to the Cottages
The
Post Code
for the cottages is
CA12 5SX, if you wish to look us up on Multimap. Braithwaite
has an hourly bus
service from Penrith, which has good rail connections
to the rest of the UK; for example, central London is less than
4½ hours away, whereas by car it takes at least an hour
longer. Penrith is 21 miles away from Braithwaite, or one hour by
bus. The Braithwaite bus stop is about 250 yards from the
cottages, just beyond the Royal Oak pub.
National Express (tel: 0990 808080) run
regular coach services to Keswick from London and other UK locations. Traveline can help you
to plan your journey both to and from Braithwaite and also, during your
holiday, within Cumbria, using various forms of public transport.
Keswick
is one of the main hubs for bus journeys within the Lakes.
If you wish to use
your car, we would encourage you to offset the carbon emitted by your
vehicle's journey, preferably using a carbon
offset scheme accredited by the Government (DEFRA). Here are the
directions to the
Cottage:
From
the M6: leave at Junction 40 (Penrith) and drive about 21 miles west
on the A66, ignoring the three turnings to Keswick. From
Ambleside and Grasmere, and the southern Lakes: take the A591 to
Keswick, and turn right for the A66 (follow the signs for Cockermouth
and Workington) when descending into Keswick.
About
a mile past the third Keswick turning on the A66, take the B5292 to
Lorton and Braithwaite. In about 300 yards you pass the Royal Oak
pub on your left, and then after about 100 yards you will see a sign
to “Youth Centre” and “Coledale”. Go left over the stone
bridge, and the Cottages can be seen as part of the building
immediately on your left.
