Lake District walks - Threlkeld

Threlkeld has two excellent pubs, and is the natural place to start any walks up the western part of Blencathra. It also is the home of the hounds for the Blencathra hunt (John Peel used to ride with the next door hunt at Caldbeck), which you can visit at Gategill Farm in our first picture.

The top of Blencathra is a wide plateau, in stark contrast to its central access routes, which are steep and dramatic. Here we see two of the central fell ridges, Gategill and Hall's, with the summit ridge in the distance

As we leave the farm and start the climb. Hall's Fell Ridge is on the right, leading straight up to the summit of Blencathra, as you can see in the picture.
