Lake District walks - Coledale

Here is Braithwaite village as you climb onto the mine road. The row of cottages in the foreground were in fact the miners' cottages.

The mine buildings are just visible in the valley - underground it stretches up Grisedale, to the right, and beyond Force Crag, the cliff in the middle of the picture. The fell to the left is Outerside, the one straight ahead is Eel Crags. You can just see the main path beyond the mine, climbing up to the left of Force Crag, where it bends right and, behind Force Crag, up to Coledale Hause.

Looking up Coledale

This is the end of the valley, with the mine just out of shot on the right, and the path up to the Hause easily visible cutting across from the left. This picture was taken on a beautiful, sunny January afternoon (note the vapour trail on the right), with the sun having just sunk behind Eel Crags.
